The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now streaming to home video! Captain America: Brave New World released in theaters in February, and you can have it on your shelves for patrons on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K when it releases on May 13.
The new movie sees Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take over the famous shield. Embracing his role as the new Captain America, Wilson faces a global conspiracy. He finds opposition from Harrison Ford’s character, President Thaddeus Ross—aka Red Hulk.
Captain America: Brave New World Comics
A great way for patrons to catch up before watching is by going back to where it all began—the beloved Captain America comics. We’ve put together a collection on Hoopla that is a great place to start, and we also have some suggestions for those who want to dive a little deeper.
Sam Wilson stepping into the shoes of Captain America is a significant storyline for Marvel Comics. The 2015 – 2017 series Captain America: Sam Wilson tackles the transition, addressing contemporary social issues and redefining the traditional symbol of Captain America.
The movie pulls inspiration from that series among many others for its own thrilling plot. The Captain America: Symbol of Truth series from 2022 – 2023 dives further into Sam’s story, including the adventures and challenges he faces in his new identity.
Red Hulk Comics
One of the thrills of the movie is seeing 82-year-old Harrison Ford transform into Red Hulk—with the help of some truly impressive CGI. For more of the story on this formidable and fascinating super-villain, we recommend:
- Red Hulk (2008)
- World War Hulk (2007)
- Fall of the Hulks (2009 – 2010)
Other Captain America Series and Comics
Captain America is a superhero icon, with roots going all the way back to 1940. That’s an epic history—and patrons can explore much of it on Hoopla. For Cap stories in a more modern context, here are a few patrons will enjoy:
