Clearly, fantasy conquered the list in 2024 for our Hoopla patrons. So many huge romantasy series were discussed on BookTok and Bookstagram and found their way on our lists too. Rebecca Yarros appeared in the most spots with the Empyrean series. The other most talked about Romantasy series last year was ACOTAR. However, we love some magic as well and can see you do too with the Harry Potter series and Wicked. Harry Potter is still going strong and typically makes this list! We imagine Wicked will maintain strong numbers, too, with the film adaptation having hit theaters at the tail-end of 2024.

We are thrilled to see some top thrillers as well with The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden and The Wrong Daughter by Dandy Smith. We loved Small Things Like These, Keegan’s powerful, haunting literary novel that was an Oprah Book Club pick. Ten of Hoopla’s top 12 most-borrowed books of 2024 are in audiobook format, showing that audiobooks are an increasingly popular way for people to read books. And with Hoopla, audiobooks can be streamed or downloaded to a mobile device for listening on the go—patrons can even listen to audiobooks on an airplane!
