We are excited to announce the latest enhancement to the Hoopla integration with Aspen Discovery: support for consortia using new Hoopla API endpoints.
Key Benefits
Member Library Customization
Libraries in a consortium-managed discovery interface now have full control over how their Hoopla content is displayed in Aspen Discovery. Each member library can maintain its own Hoopla circulation options and Flex title availability within a single Aspen instance.
Seamless Discovery and Management
Patrons at member libraries can discover Hoopla content—both Instant (always available) and Flex (one copy/one user)—directly through Aspen Discovery. They can borrow titles and track their digital borrows (including holds) alongside physical items.
Library staff will no longer need to manually add Flex records to the ILS or sideload them to the discovery interface. The system automatically manages Hoopla Flex records, keeping the catalog in sync with your Hoopla collection.
Enhanced Administrative Visibility
Consortium administrators gain full visibility into member libraries’ Hoopla settings for search and display, supporting better oversight and coordination.
Transition Details
There will be no downtime during the reindexing process associated with this release. You may notice a brief lag in availability updates, but library systems will remain fully operational. Patrons and staff can continue to access all services as usual.
How to Get Started
The Hoopla team and your support provider will coordinate the transition with your library consortium. If your consortium has a test server, you’ll have the opportunity to test the new functionality in your Aspen test instance using the Hoopla staging API, which allows for safe experimentation without impacting live patron services.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your Aspen support provider or the Hoopla team. We are committed to providing personalized support to ensure a smooth transition.
